LEVI; one of Israel's 12 sons.. Not AT ALL genteel!!  Cutting straight to the point??  Offend him, & he'll just squash you like the gnat you are, fella... And then.. go back to doing what he was doing before your offense came unto him!!  No self restraint; AT ALL!  By faaaar  the most violent of ANY of his brothers (save for Simeon; who'd the same nature!!)  Himself & Simeon; upon the abduction & rape of their sis, Dinah; brought a WHOLE city down with the sword!!  NATURALLY ANYONE is going to be a lil po'd at the news that their sister was raped.. But to go & KILL them, AND while they are at it - every man in the CITY?!?  Ferocious, to say the least!!  Their father, Israel, when pronouncing blessings or cursings to his children on his deathbed, cursed Levi & Simeon, and said..

F (Simeon) and Levi are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations.

G O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their selfwill they digged down a wall.

H Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel. ~Genesis 49:5-7

Needless to say - Israel meant BUSINESS when pronouncing the things to come for his sons, Simeon & Levi!!

NEVERTHELESS.. Levi's tribe would come to be known.. As the 'priestly' tribe!  Their portion was THE BEST portion there was, (IMO), for their portion was higher than ANY of their brethren!!  Their portion WAS the LORD!!!

 

Out of Levi's tribe, came Moses!! 😋  NO ONE knows where he's buried either!  ALSO Aaron,  the ONE and ONLY... Samuel (PURE LOVE and ADMIRATION 😋), AND the prophet Nathan!

Make absolutely NO MISTAKE.. LEVI's tribe was THE warrior tribe.. When it was found out that the children of Israel had built a golden calf.. Twas HIS tribe; the tribe of Levi - that Moses called upon to slay the masterminds of the foolish golden calf!!  (Though Aaron who BUILT the calf; was spared!!  I have never understood THAT one.. Other than to say, "he hadda invoke "Moses' brother rites!") 😋 

 

Now.. To LEVI; (founder of the Tribe of Levi's) story...

LEVI; or (Hebrew: ﬥֵוִי;) was born c. 1568 BC or 1567 BC, in Paddan-aram,, to Israel (aka Jacob) & Leah.  The third in the line of twelve.. Peradventure & surmising that (while the Book of Genesis doesn't hold a whole lot on his nature as a child), to do what he and his brother did in Shechem - he hadda have anger management issues as a kid.. FoSho!  ((And AGAIN - that's just my opine and you know what they say about opines, FoSho!!!)) 😋

Levi and his brother, Simeon, enilahated the city of Shechem , in revenge for the rape of their sis, Dinah (who btw, by tradition was wifed to "Job" ~ AWESOMELY cool!!) Anyhoo - they seized the wealth of the city and killing the men, Shechem, (aft who the city was SO named!!) 

 

Seems after brutally raping their sis, Dinah; Shechem (da prince of the city so bearing his name), decides 'hey.. I wanna marry this gal I just raped)..  So he sends his large talking, squawking, daddy to Israel's house to ask his permission, to wed his daughter (uhmm.. Mmyes, that'd be the one he just raped.) 

 

The sons of Israel, namely Simeon & Levi, understandably, were MAJORLY po'd at this gold spoon prince rapist , (& 'NO DOUBT' newly acquired suck up manners' prince),  making such a request, so they answered, & said.. 'We will give our sister in marriage ONLY if you circumcise yourself - you & your city..'  

 

So they did, EXCITEDLY & HASTILY!!!  And on the 3rd day while they were still sore from the severed foreskins, and helpless; Simeon & Levi slaughtered them.

Levi went on to form the Tribe of Levi..  He was buried somewheres; mmbut where??  Is ANYONE's GUESS!!  My guess, is that it was his wish for his grave not to be publicly published...  His, (as founder of one of the tribes), woulda been pretty impopo..  

 

But ANYWAY.. Wherever he is planted... May he find the peace in the after that he prolly never found in this life!  Annd SOMETHING tells me ~ he did indeed!!  FoSho'nuff! 😋
